Welcome to the Rialto Youth Project

2013 Where in the World Development Education group

Following on from an introductory session on global issues, the young people expressed a strong interest in exploring issues at a much deeper level and investigating how they can promote awareness and understanding of the interdependent and unequal world in which we live, and relating local issues to global issues. Some of the young people in this group were already in leadership roles at local level and all were interested in becoming more active citizen’s in their community.

The project began with some non-formal activities and team-building exercises, including residentials, to aid the young people to develop a stronger bond as a group.
The group explored their own identity with some field trips and interactive workshops. Using peer education, the group examined different issues (locally and globally) which were of particular interest to them and discussed how they can take action to raise awareness of these issues. They planned and organised the dissemination of their learning to the wider community.
